Underwater Digital Painting

So I have been experimenting with digital painting and this is one piece that actually worked out. Digital painting is just like drawing and painting but instead of traditional paints and canvass, I am using a computer, Photoshop and a mouse. Trying to paint digitally with a mouse is like using a rock to paint. One day I will upgrade.

Old Rusty

I found some good photos of these old rusty trucks and I thought they would make great watercolors. I hope to do a series of them and hopefully they get better and better.

Maple Mountain Sunset

Yep, it's another Maple Mountain painting. This is a larger piece done in acrylic. I'm not quite sure about this one but I thought I would post it anyway. Let me know what you think.

Sunflower

When I was still living at home, years ago, my brother planted some sunflower seeds in our front yard. The seeds grew into these giant 9-foot sunflowers and we told the little nieces and nephews that the giant flowers would eat little kids if they got too close. :) That was pretty mean but the kids were old enough to know it was a joke...I think.
I took photos of the flowers and painted this in a college class right after my mission. The entire painting is composed of little dots. (Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small distinct dots of colour create the impression of a wide selection of other colors and optical blending.) I used yellow and blue dots close together to create the illusion of green in the leaves and stem. When you stand back, the eye naturally puts the yellow and blue dots together to create green. When you get up close the eye can distinguish between the different colors of dots.

Portland Head Light

First of all, Happy New Year to all!
This is an acrylic painting I did for my brother years ago. I think I gave it to him as a birthday or Christmas gift. He served a 2-year LDS mission in Maine and other New England states.
The Portland Head Light is a famous landmark in Maine.

Lakeshore House

I painted this over 10 years ago. It is an old abandoned farmhouse in Lakeshore, Utah (west of Spanish Fork). Back in high school this house had a reputation of being "haunted" so groups kids would go there to scare their dates on the weekend. I remember being in high school and some older kids took a group of us to see this "haunted" house at night. We must have been sophmores because we couldn't drive and we were so scared but couldn't turn back because we didn't want the older girls to think we were wimps. When we got older we made sure to pass the tradition on by introducing others to this "haunted" house.

Palm and Coconuts

I painted this about 3 years ago after my first trip to Hawaii. We went to the Polynesian Cultural Center and there was a Samoan guide demonstrating how he could climb the palms and retrieve coconuts. I looked up and thought this would be an unusual painting so I took a few photos of the palm and came home to paint it. I love this painting because it reminds me of my favorite place on earth, Hawaii, and since then I have traveled back a couple more times.
This is a 22"wide x 28"high oil on canvas.
